2010 Volunteer Awards

Volunteer of the Year - Jack Muldoon

Jack Muldoon is our Volunteer of the Year. This is a one-time award that is given to the volunteer who has contributed the most hours during the previous year and who has not previously received it. Jack is awarded the Volunteer of the Year for his contribution of 474 hours of service to the Library in 2010.
Jack grew up in the Chicago area. A go-getter from the start, Jack began his career in insurance early, while attending DePaul University. A few years later the Army called and he spent two years in France and Germany. In June of 1958 he graduated from DePaul University and three days later, he married his wife, Joan. The 1960s found him and his family moving to Houston, St. Louis and Stamford, CT, before settling down in Arlington Heights in 1969. Jack and Joan raised two children, Patrick and Kathleen, in Arlington Heights. His three grandsons live in northern California.
Jack had a successful career in the insurance industry where he worked in a variety of underwriting, sales, marketing and management positions for a number of companies including Continental, Aetna, Allstate, Volkswagen and American Reserve. In 1972 Jack graduated from the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University Graduate School of Business.
A few years after his retirement, Jack began to volunteer at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library as a Computer Instructor in the Computer Room at the Senior Center. Through his classes, lectures and one-on-one assistance Jack has helped nearly 1000 older adult students develop the skills needed to manage their own investments.
The Arlington Heights Memorial Library is most appreciative of Jack’s devotion and contributions to the Library over these many years and is pleased to honor him as our Volunteer of the Year.
